OCAL has developed a Biodiversity and Land Management Plan which details the practices and control measures implemented to minimise the impact of OCAL’s operations on the biodiversity values of company owned land and surrounding areas. Biodiversity and Land Management at West Wallsend Colliery and MCPP focuses on:
- Minimising removal of vegetation on site;
- Preventing land degradation;
- Controlling vermin and noxious weeds;
- Progressive rehabilitation of disturbed areas; and
- Conserving biodiversity
